Another award!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Great news!  At Festival dei Popoli in Florence, Petropolis was awarded the Prize for Distribution from the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo.  The prize is intended to promote the distribution of a socially minded film in Italy.  A burse of 5,000 Euros will go to its distributor (TBD).

According to Persinsala, a film industry publication in Italy, the award was deserving: “[The film] is not reduced to a statement of the tar sands, but extended to a reflection on the inhuman choices in the name of economy. . . across a worrying fresco of a world drowned in tar.”

October/November Festivals

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Following the North American premiere at TIFF, Petropolis screened at the Vancouver International Film Festival and Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal.  In Europe, we had our Belgian (Film Festival Ghent) and German (Dok Leipzig) national premieres.  Peter was at Dok Leipzig and reports that we screened at a “beautiful huge theatre with the best and biggest image yet.”

In November, Peter will attend the Italian (Festival dei Popoli) and Danish (CPH:Dox) national premieres, and I’ll be traveling to the UK for Sheffield Doc/Fest.  Interestingly, we’ll also screen for the first time in Alberta at the Global Visions Film Festival in Edmonton.  I’ll report back on the reception we receive there.

UPDATE: A late addition to the schedule is Festival O.F.N.I. in Poitiers, France. The film screens on the 13th and 19th of November. The festival’s focus this year is Canadian cinema, so they will also be screening Peter Mettler’s Gambling, Gods and LSD on the 18th.
